Getting Started

If you are a youngster looking to get started with basketball in Adelaide you can check out our programs below like Come & Try, Aussie Hoops (mixed and all-girls) and our U8 & U9 "Cubs" programs (mixed and all-girls). If you are getting serious about your basketball then read about our Adelaide Community League teams, which is the next step before Junior District Basketball.

Free Come & Try

 

The West Adelaide Bearcats hold regular free 'Come & Try' clinics for children to see if they like basketball. 

​

The Bearcats currently have the following free session scheduled for boys & girls aged 5 to 9.

Aussie Hoops

 

Aussie Hoops is an initiative of Basketball Australia and is the National Introductory Basketball Program for children aged 5-10.

Aussie Hoops Clinics are run weekly by various Basketball SA affiliated Clubs (like the Bearcats) and at centres across metropolitan Adelaide.  During the program children are taught how to bounce the ball, pass and shoot while playing fun games in the process!

AUSSIE HOOPS - WHERE, WHEN & REGISTER

TERM 2 PROGRAM 2024 - 6 BEARCAT OPTIONS AVAILABLE! 
​

  • 3 locations - Port Adelaide, Osborne, Flinders Park

  • Options Monday, Thursday or Friday after school; Saturday morning or early Saturday afternoon - all sessions 50 minutes

  • Starts week of Monday 2 May 2024 - 8 week programs

  • $80 per child (plus $9.90 insurance & Basketball Australia levies) 

  • Aussie Hoops merchandise packs ($) also available at check-out

2024 BEARCAT "CUBS" PROGRAMS

​

In Term 2 of 2024 the Bearcats are offering 3 "Bearcat Cubs" products. Cubs is a unique training and playing program for Under 8s and Under 9s who are looking to take the next step from Aussie Hoops (see above) or are further advanced than beginners.

​

UNDER 8 CUBS - MIXED

​

Our U8 'Cubs' training takes place at 12.40pm on Saturday afternoons at Port Adelaide, and is followed by a competitive game for all players. For players born in 2017 and younger. Starts 4 May. 

​

UNDER 9 CUBS - MIXED

​

Our U9 'Cubs' training takes place at 1.40pm on Saturday afternoons at Port Adelaide, and is followed by a competitive game for all players. For players born in 2016. Starts 4 May.

ALL GIRLS CUBS FOR 5-10 YEAR OLDS

We also have an All Girls Cubs product for 5-10 year old girls after school on Monday afternoons, starting from Monday 6 May ($100 for 8 weeks). Group skills followed by mini games. Get to know basketball in a fun and safe environment. Register HERE
