Getting Started

Please note, that due to the COVID-19 health emergency, all District, Domestic and Social Basketball for juniors and seniors is indefinitely postponed until such a time as the Australian Government allows for the opening of indoor sporting facilities and social gatherings. The full message regarding basketball programs from Basketball SA can be read here: Basketball SA Statement (March 25)
The following information relates to the West Adelaide Bearcats normal club operations.
If you are a youngster looking to get started with basketball in Adelaide you can check out programs like Come & Try, Aussie Hoops, Domestic Basketball and primary school basketball. If you are getting serious about your basketball then Junior District Basketball with the Bearcats is the place to be. This page provides some information about the following introductory programs.

Come & Try

The West Adelaide Bearcats hold 'Come & Try' clinics for children to see if they like basketball.

Please contact Lachlan for information about when the next clinic will be. Or you can move straight into Aussie Hoops or Domestic Basketball ahead of a start in District Basketball.

Domestic Basketball ('D-League')

Domestic Basketball is for boys and girls who have participated in 'Come & Try' and/or 'Aussie Hoops' or are looking to start participating in a game setting.

The ‘D-League’ is a junior competition designed to introduce children to playing basketball in a team environment whilst also improving their skills, having fun and gaining some enjoyable exercise in the process. Participants are grouped according to age and ability.

Children aged 5-11 years of age are welcome at any time to join an existing Domestic Team or create a team with their friends from their school or existing club.

Games are played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Port Adelaide and participants are grouped according to age and ability around the U8, U10, U12 and U14 age groups.
