The Bearcats top Men's & Women's teams compete in the SA Premier League, the top basketball competition for South Australia's elite men's teams. The League is played between March and August and includes 10 clubs from metropolitan Adelaide.

Getting Started
If you are a youngster looking to get started with basketball in Adelaide you can check out our programs below like Come & Try, Aussie Hoops and our U8 "Cubs". If you are getting serious about your basketball then read about our Community League teams, which is the next step before Junior District Basketball.
Free Come & Try
The West Adelaide Bearcats hold regular free 'Come & Try' clinics for children to see if they like basketball.
The Bearcats currently have the following clinics scheduled for boys & girls aged 5 to 12.

Or you can move straight into Aussie Hoops or Domestic Basketball ahead of a start in District Basketball.


Aussie Hoops
Aussie Hoops is an initiative of Basketball Australia and the Australian Sports Commission to establish a National Introductory Basketball Program for children aged 5-10.
Aussie Hoops Clinics are run weekly by various Basketball SA affiliated Clubs (like the Bearcats) and at centres across metropolitan Adelaide. During the program children are taught how to bounce the ball, pass and shoot while playing fun games in the process!

2023 BEARCAT UNDER 8 "CUBS"
Bearcat Cubs is a unique training and playing program for under 8s who are looking to take the next step from Aussie Hoops (see above) or are further advanced than beginners.
Our 'Cubs' training takes place at 12.40pm on Saturday afternoons at Port Adelaide, and is followed by a competitive game for all players.
