WEST ADELAIDE BASKETBALL
Getting Started
If you’re just starting out in basketball in Adelaide, the pathway begins with our entry-level programs.
Our Ford AUSSIE HOOPS program is Basketball Australia’s official beginner program for kids aged 5-10, giving boys and girls a fun, safe and active introduction to the game.
Following that, our U8 & U9 CUBS program is perfect for 6-8 year olds wanting to build more basketball skills. Kids learn the fundamentals, develop confidence, make friends and enjoy game play each session.
We offer a FREE Come & Try for both programs, so it’s the perfect chance to get involved and see what Bearcats basketball is all about.
From CUBS, players move into more competitive domestic basketball through the Adelaide Junior Basketball League (AJBL), where our club competes as the Port Wildcats.
The next step beyond AJBL is Junior District Basketball for those ready to take their game to a higher level.
FREE Come & Try
The West Adelaide Bearcats hold regular free 'Come & Try' clinics for children to see if they like basketball.
The Bearcats currently have free sessions scheduled for boys & girls aged 5 to 10.

AUSSIE HOOPS
Aussie Hoops is an initiative of Basketball Australia and is the National Introductory Basketball Program for children aged 5-10.
Aussie Hoops Clinics are run weekly by various Basketball SA affiliated Clubs (like the Bearcats) and at centres across metropolitan Adelaide. During the program children are taught how to bounce the ball, pass and shoot while playing fun games in the process!

MIXED U8 & U9
Cubs is a unique training and playing program for Under 8s and Under 9s who are looking to take the next step from Aussie Hoops or are further advanced than beginners.
