West Adelaide has a long and rich association with the Olympics, with nine Bearcats having either played for or coached with Australia at the Games.

The Opals games will all be televised on Channel Seven. The Opals are in Pool A, and will face Japan, Brazil, France, Belarus and Turkey. The top four teams advance to the knock-out rounds.
